This year, the National Youth Ballet company has a cast of 120 talented young dancers, selected
from dance schools across the UK, up to the age of eighteen.
Founded in 1988 the company boasts a celebrity starred patron list likely to be in the audience, including Darcey Bussell, Wayne Sleep and the and the actress Joanna Lumley OBE. Past NYB members include BBCs So You Think You Can Dance winner Charlie Bruce and finalists Robbie White and Drew McOnie and many members go on to dance professionally all over the world.
Katie Burton put on her first pair of ballet shoes at the first opportunity. But that was 12 years ago and last year, Katie played the lead role of a little girls journey through her dreams in the Angel School of Dance production It s a Kind of Magic, performing in 32 dances on each night of the show.
This truly ignited Katie s passion for ballet and she enrolled in the Stapleton Dance School (traveling over the river to Yate and Bristol three to four times a week) where she has passed her Intermediate Foundation Ballet exam with distinction and obtaining an “A” grade in her Bronze National exam. Katie now also dances at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls where she has received a drama scholarship.
Understandably, Katie is absolutely delighted to have been invited to join this years NYB Summer production.
