Monmouthshire County Council is warning residents to be alert for scammers pretending to be from its electoral registration office.
Bogus callers professing to be electoral registration officers have been telephoning people in neighboring areas in a bid to gain personal information but residents should be aware that neither electoral registration officers nor canvassers will make contact by telephone.
From 12th September 2012, canvassers representing the council will make personal visits to households that haven’t returned their electoral registration form. Canvassers will carry identification and a copy of the electoral registration form for residents to complete. Residents can avoid a canvasser’s visit by ensuring electoral registration forms are sent in good time.
Residents who receive a call asking for personal details purportedly for the electoral register are advised not to give any information and to report the phone call to the council on 01633 644212.
