Monmouthshire County Council is to display proposals for a traffic and safety improvement scheme at Caerwent following a commitment given to the community to consider improvements to tackle road safety concerns and support plans to close off School Lane.
The exhibition will be held at Burton Villas between 1pm and 7pm on Thursday 4th October.
The proposed scheme aims to address concerns raised by the community about the lack of pavements as well as speeding traffic on approach roads and through the village. This was supported by a full traffic assessment and analysis of comments received from previous consultation exercises.
The drawings on display will show plans to create a safe setting for non-motorists through the village, based upon the concept of “shared space” where an environment is created to encourage lower vehicle speeds and a sharing of the carriageway for all users. In addition, measures are proposed to slow down entry speeds on the approach to the village as well as at junctions with the A48.
Subject to receiving approval, the council proposes to progress with the detailed design before commencing with physical works for completion in February 2013.
