Monmouthshire Library staff are to undertake the Three Castles Walk on Monday, July 1st to raise money to buy prizes for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a UK-wide initiative now in its fourteenth year and is aimed at preventing the dip in children’s reading ability which can occur over the warmer, lighter months.
It’s also good fun for youngsters as with stickers and novelties to collect they get stuck into their six books to earn their Reading Challenge certificate. Those who complete the challenge could win one of four Kindle Fire E-readers as they will be entered into a county-wide draw.
The Three Castles Walk links the Norman fortresses of Skenfrith, Whitecastle and Grosmont and divides neatly into three sections. Organisers are inviting anyone who wishes to join in one or more of the sections to contact David Fraser on 01873 735980 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Those who wish to support but avoid any exertion are invited to join library staff at 2.30 in Grosmont when walkers will be enjoying a well-earned drink and listening to some appropriate readings.
