Monmouthshire County Council’s sustainability team is running a one day sale of water butts and compost bins in the car park of Abergavenny’s Waitrose supermarket on Wednesday 3rd July from 9am. A further sale, to be held in the Chepstow Leisure Centre car park on Friday July 5th, will also start at 9am.
The water butts come complete with taps, lids, stands and diverters, linking the water butt to the drainpipe. Made from 100% recycled plastic they have a capacity of 190 litres. The compost bins are also made from 100% recycled plastic, have a capacity of 220 litres and are ideal for turning garden waste into a rich medium for growing plants.
Sales are cash only and supplies are limited so buyers are urged to arrive early. A water butt and compost bin may be purchased together for a bargain £30 which compares very favourably with prices elsewhere.
County councillor Phil Hobson, cabinet member with responsibility for sustainability issues said: “This deal is a great way for people to save resources while maintaining a green and pleasant garden. The water butts help people to conserve water and reduce bills if on a water meter while the compost bins are extremely useful as they can deal with garden waste in the most sustainable manner possible”.
