Phase 1 of the project involved carrying out work to the undamaged section of the school, which will remain in use throughout the project. This work was completed on time and the school reopened as scheduled on 2nd September, with pupils starting the new term on 3rd September. The school’s breakfast club also reopened on schedule.
Cllr Liz Hacket Pain, Cabinet Member for Schools and Learning, said:
“I’m delighted that work is underway to build one of the UK’s most modern school buildings. The new block will boast the same kind of learning facilities that have made Dewstow school such a success.”
“We will ensure that the school community is kept fully up to date with the progress of the project. Willmott Dixon will be sending regular updates to residents. Like everybody, I’m really looking forward to the new block opening next year.”
The new building is due to open to pupils at the beginning of next academic year, September 2014.
