As many of you may be aware, Monmouthshire has been awarded the privilege of hosting the 2014 British Cycling National Road Championships.
As part of the championships, to be held in June, there will be a number of road races taking place across the county, reaching from Abergavenny across to Monmouth, Usk and Chepstow.
The championship races include:
* The National Time Trial Championships - Thursday 26 June
* The Championships Sportive – Saturday 28 June
* The National Road Race Championships (men’s and women’s) - Sunday 29 June
To add to the celebration, and demonstrate why Monmouthshire is the cycling capital of Wales, the annual Abergavenny Festival of Cycling will come before the championships making for a whole week of cycling events (Monday 23 – Sunday 29 June).
Whilst the celebration is still in the planning stages, it’s important that we let you know what is happening in June. With the obvious benefits of having some amazing events on your doorstep, and an opportunity for our local businesses to earn more from all the visitors, there will also be some disruptions you need to plan for. Some roads will temporarily close to make it safe for riders to compete in the races. We’re still figuring out all of the details and as soon as we know more, we will let you know exactly which roads and areas will be affected. We want everyone to get as much enjoyment from the events as possible so we’ll make sure that we talk to you regularly so you can plan ahead.
We’re still working on our plans but if you have any questions, or you’d like to get involved in the event, please contact our One Stop Shops on 01291 63570001291 635700.
