Monmouthshire County Council has been awarded £51,300 for distribution to the county’s clubs and associations that meet the criteria of the Sport Wales Community Chest fund.
The scheme is specifically designed to support the development of sport and physical activity at grass routes level. Clubs and associations can apply for funding of up to £1,500 in any financial year.
More than £30,000 has been invested into community sport and physical activity in Monmouthshire during the last 12 months thanks to the special grants scheme.
Activities that have benefited from the fund include cricket, rugby, football, petanque and sailing. The funding has been used to improve coaching standards, purchase additional equipment and provide taster sessions.
