Pembroke Primary School Bike Club
With the help and support of parents teachers and freinds I have started a Bike Club. Its running one evening a week as an after school club (Monday 3.15-4.30) at Pembroke Primary School. It was planned to run for 6 weeks to assess the response . Bike Club will finish (or be reviewed) with an activity in Team Green Bike Week (20th June). The aim of the club is to provide an opportunity for children and parents in the the local community to practice and develop their bike riding skills in a safe environment, and have fun whilst doing so. Each week I have organised different activities-bike riding skills, a virtual race and a 'guest activity' for example Dr Bike.
In the first two sessions 35 children and 7 parents (some with bikes) attended. There were 2 teachers and myself. The children where split into the teams with a parent to supervise. In the second week more children requested to join, we have taken their names for next years club (September).
On a Monday's I also teach the schools year 6 children National Standards Cycle Skills. Many of these children have joined the bike club and are acting very responsibly in leading and supporting the younger members and parents when practicing their bike skills. Everyone appears very enthusiastic.
So far the club has been very successful.
