Monmouthshire’s summer play schemes held at the county’s four leisure centres and Bulwark Community Centre still have spaces available to book over the coming weeks. The schemes give children aged 5-11 years the chance to take part in a wide range of fun activities and during the first two weeks over 3,200 visits have been recorded. All four weeks are themed and activities include arts and crafts, bouncy castle, treasure hunts, circus skills, talent shows, parachute games, daily swimming at the leisure centres, children's fitness, multi sports, the fruit smoothie bike and visits from Monmouthshire Libraries and emergency services.
Richard Simpkins, who helps to coordinate the council-run play schemes said: “It’s great that so many children are having fun at our five venues across Monmouthshire. Some of the most popular activities include NRG fitness sessions, zumba, daily swimming, the fruit smoothie bike, sports 4 all and fancy dress days. With a full day session costing just £7 per child with further discounts for siblings and children on free school meals it is great value”
The venues also provide a breakfast club, free swimming sessions for children aged 16 years and under, children’s NRG fitness and a wide range of Sports 4 All activities. A free bus service running from Magor to Caldicot and Usk to Monmouth for the playscheme has to be booked in advance through Caldicot and Monmouth Leisure Centres.
Even though some of the sites have reached maximum capacity on certain days spaces are still available to book over the coming weeks. Further information can be found at www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/leisure or by contacting one of your local leisure centres:
